A: 2-flute mills provide maximum chip space, making them ideal for slotting and roughing, especially in softer or non-ferrous materials. 4-flute (or more) mills offer higher rigidity and a better surface finish, making them the standard choice for side milling and finishing in steel and harder alloys.
A: Long-neck square mills are designed to reach deep into cavities and ribs where a standard shank would interfere. Our design uses a reinforced tapered neck to minimize tool deflection, ensuring your 90° corners remain accurate even at depth.
A: Deflection is caused by excessive tool length or aggressive feed rates. To prevent it, use the shortest tool possible for the task, ensure a rigid machine setup, and consider using a tapered neck square mill for added stability.
A: Yes. Square end mills are suitable for face milling small areas to achieve a flat, smooth surface. However, for very large surface areas, a dedicated face mill might be more efficient.
A: In high-precision CNC milling, run-out is the enemy of tool life and accuracy. A tighter shank tolerance ensures the tool sits perfectly in the holder, distributing cutting forces evenly across all flutes and preventing premature chipping.
A: 6-flute mills are reserved for finishing operations in extremely hard materials (HRC 55-65). They allow for very high feed rates while producing an exceptional surface finish, but they have very little chip space, so they are not suitable for deep slotting.
A: AlCrN (Aluminum Chromium Nitride) is the best choice for dry machining. It has an oxidation temperature of up to 1100°C and forms a protective oxide layer that shields the carbide core from heat.
A: Use our DLC-coated 2-flute series with ultra-sharp edges and a high helix angle. The low friction of DLC prevents the “sticky” aluminum from adhering to the edge, resulting in a clean, burr-free shear.
A: In climb milling, the cutter rotates with the feed direction. This produces a chip that starts thick and ends thin, transferring less heat to the tool and providing a much better surface finish than conventional milling.
